Judith Allen Wight went home to GLORY yesterday, December 28,2012 at 3:30pm.
There is an old saying that 'Once you are a Mom, you're always a Mom'. Well, even for many people outside of my family, that was definitely true of Judy.
My mother was the only child of John and Phyllis Greene. Grandpa was a Captain in the Oklahoma City Fire Department and my grandmother worked as a teletype operator for General Motors.
My fondest memories of my grandfather and grandmother were taking trips to their home in Lake Tenkiller and looking for rattlesnakes (in the middle of winter of course because we really didn't want to find any), and fishing for crappies while riding around in grandpa's dune-buggy.
Judy was born in Oklahoma City on March 9th, 1943. She attended college for a bit to that "other school" in Stillwater, OK, where obtaining her 'MRS' degree was her main goal. My dad's baseball buddy was dating my mom's roommate and suggested that dad tag along one day. My Dad saw mom, struck up a conversation and the rest, they say, is history and they were married September 25, 1965.
Dad finished up school at Oklahoma University ('Boomer Sooner') and then moved to Minneapolis to start a career with Honeywell. It was in Minneapolis that Mom gave birth to two striking lads, my brother Todd and I, a couple years apart. Dad continued his education and obtained his Masters degree at the Carlson School of Management (U of M) and took a job with Midtex in Mankato in the early 70's, where Mom again gave birth to a chubby little kid named Mark.
My mom raised three boys while somehow keeping my Dad on the straight and narrow and continued to raise us well into our late 30's and 40's. She forced us to take piano lessons, made sure we showed kindness to others, and attended ALL of our sporting events (even in college).
If you want to classify my father as an introvert, his wife of 47 years was completely (and I mean completely) the opposite. As a receptionist at the Hutchinson Technical College, she loved on the kids, the teachers and the visitors with a welcome smile and a warm heart. She volunteered at church, sang in many choirs including the Minnesota Valley Chorale as well as singing on the worship team at Shalom Baptist Church.
The Lord blessed Judy with 11 grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished and glorified through the storytelling to people in her church, community and pictures she would show anyone at a moment's notice.
Judy's last wish would be that her friends and acquaintances would come to a relationship with God available only through Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9,10).
Thank you to everyone who has been faithfully praying for her through her struggles with cancer, the many doctors and nurses that administered love and care, and our friends and family. May the memory of my Mom bring you closer to a deeper relationship with God.
Grace & Peace
