Excerpt from a SuperBowl Weekend

(From an email by Heidi)
My boys invented a new game on Monday evening called basketball-football. The game is fairly simple – you try to shoot a basketball while the other tackles you. The game ended poorly for Jalen. I spent Monday evening at the hospital, after Jalen suffered a concussion. It was pretty clear that something was wrong after the 40th time he asked “Where are my shoes” and “Where am I?” Each time he asked the question as if he was asking it for the very first time. The doctor said he may not ever remember his first and last game of “basketball-football,” but he should recover most of his short-term memory in 3-4 days.

Kind of a funny ending to this story though. We get him home from the hospital and tell him to go brush his teeth. We check on him a minute later as he is lying in bed and ask him “Did you brush your teeth?” Of course he responds “I forgot.”

Coincidentally, Jalen can’t remember the SuperBowl party we hosted on Sunday – a party that, at the beginning, I wish I could also forget. Heidi was making homemade pizzas, and our oven chooses to conk out while she was preheating it. We have some great neighbors who were kind enough to bake about 10 pizzas for us. So the partiers were well fed, even if the effort was stressful to say the least.

Since this blog was Jalen-intensive, I feel compelled to say a few words about Hunter. He was explaining to me tonight that the sun has not yet reached its half-life. When it does, the heat will be too intense for us to bear … so we’ll have to live on another planet for a while. But he concluded in saying that we personally wouldn’t have to worry about the sun’s half life, as it won’t be reached until 2.3 million years from now (or something like that … I dozed off in the middle when he started talking about red stars …). Then, the rest of his conversation was focused on the 2nd coming of Christ. He wanted to know if Christ will get as much publicity as Obama...

Grace & Peace
